Apple Computers

I get asked all the time… What kind of computer should I buy. I guess this is probably because of my background in computers and my job as an IT director. I used to recommend buying Dell computers and a long time ago I recommended buying Gateway computers. However, that was a long time ago.

In 2006, my recommendation changed. That is when Apple introduced the Intel chip into their computers. What does that mean? It means that Apple computers can run both Windows and the Max OS X Operating System. Now don’t get me wrong, I am not a big fan of Windows, and especially running it on a Mac, but the fact is, some people just need to do that. Well, now they can.

Apple computers, although generally a little more expensive have some distinct advantages over their PC counterparts. To me, those advantages include:

* A tightly integrated operating system that works well with the hardware – Think about it, the same company made both
* Simplicity – Apple software and computers are just much simpler
* Viruses – Although Apple computers and the Mac OS X operating system are not virus proof, it is much less vulnerable
* Tight integration with other Apple products including iPhone, iPods, Apple TV, iTunes, etc.
* Excellent support
* Easy setup and learning curve
* Apple computers just work
I constantly recommend Apple computers. People often take my advice. The one thing I have noticed is I get very few calls after the purchase of an Apple asking for help. The Apple computers just work, and work in ways people understand. This just wasn’t the case when I was recommending Dell or other Windows computers.

There are actually very few choices when you go to buy an Apple computer. The current lineup includes:

* Macbook
* Macbook Pro
* iMac
* Powermac
* Mac Mini

Most people these days are looking for a laptop it seems. My recommendation is the Macbook Pro 13″. It lists for $1199. Don’t forget to ask for a government or educational discount if you are eligible. These discounts basically cover the sales tax.

Happy Apple shopping…
